Who this applies to.
This Privacy Policy applies to everyone who uses Originn — visitors, registered users, backers, applicants, and collaborators. It explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
If you don't agree with this Policy, please don't use the Platform.
Section 02
What we collect.
Information you give us
- Account information — name, email, password, optional profile photo
- Builder Profile — what you choose to share (skills, education, experience, project links, etc.)
- Pre-order details — shipping address when required for delivery
- Communications — messages you send through the Platform or to our support team
Information collected automatically
- Activity on the Platform — pages you visit, startups you save, jobs you apply to, campaigns you back
- Device and connection — browser type, operating system, IP address, approximate location
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 05)
Information from third parties
- Limited profile information from social login providers if you sign in with them (e.g., name and email)
- Payment confirmations from our payment partners (we do not store your full card number)
- Founder confirmations when you claim a role at a listed startup
Section 03
How we use it.
We use your data only to operate the Platform and serve you. Specifically:
- Run your account, authenticate you, and keep you signed in
- Match you with relevant startups, jobs, and campaigns
- Process pre-order transactions through escrow
- Send transactional emails — verification, milestone updates, refund confirmations
- Send product updates only if you have opted in
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations under Indian law
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data
- We do not use your data to train AI models for sale
- We do not build advertising profiles or share data with ad networks
Section 06
How long we keep it.
Active accounts
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Platform.
After you delete your account
Most data is removed within 30 days. Some data is retained as required by Indian law — for example, financial records are typically kept for seven years for tax and regulatory purposes.
Communications
We keep messages and support conversations for as long as needed to resolve related issues and meet legal obligations.
Section 07
Your rights.
Worth knowing
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), you have meaningful control over your data.
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your data — subject to retention requirements under Indian law
- Withdraw consent for data we process based on your consent
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India
You can exercise these rights from your account settings, or by writing to contact@originn.co.in. We respond within a reasonable timeframe — typically within two weeks.
Section 08
How we protect your data.
We protect your data with reasonable, industry-standard measures:
- HTTPS / TLS encryption for data in transit
- Encryption at rest for sensitive fields
- Strong authentication and access controls
- Regular security reviews and updates
No system is completely secure. If you suspect unauthorised access to your account, contact us immediately at contact@originn.co.in.
Section 09
Children.
Originn is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Section 10
Where your data lives.
Originn is operated from India and your data is primarily stored and processed in India under Indian law. If you access the Platform from outside India, your data will be transferred to and processed in India.
We do not transfer your personal data outside India unless required by law or with your explicit consent.
Section 11
Changes to this Policy.
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do:
- The "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes
- For material changes, we provide at least 15 days' notice via email and a banner on the Platform
Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any update means you accept the updated Policy.
