What this policy covers.
This Refund Policy applies to pre-orders placed on Originn — the conditional purchases you make to back a campaign before a product has shipped.
What it does not cover
- Product defects discovered after delivery — those fall under the startup's warranty and the Indian Consumer Protection Act (see Section 05)
- Browsing, applying for jobs, creating a profile, or submitting a collaboration proposal — all of which are free on Originn
Section 02
Full refund if a startup fails to deliver.
The promise
If a startup fails to deliver at any stage, you get the full amount you paid — refunded automatically. No claim filing. No back-and-forth.
Every pre-order on Originn is conditional. Your funds are held in an RBI-regulated escrow account, not paid to the startup upfront. The startup only receives money in tranches as it hits verified milestones. If the campaign fails before completion, every unreleased rupee, and every released tranche where the underlying obligation has not been met, returns to you.
Section 03
When refunds are issued.
Automatically
- A milestone is missed for more than 30 days without resolution → the campaign is marked as failed → all backers are refunded in full
- A startup confirms it cannot complete the campaign → refunds begin immediately
- A startup is removed from the Platform for misrepresentation or fraud → all active escrow balances return to backers
By the startup
If the startup voluntarily withdraws a campaign before successful delivery, the full escrowed balance returns to backers.
Section 04
How you get your money back.
Payment method
Refunds are issued to the original payment method you used at the time of the pre-order — UPI, debit or credit card, net banking, or supported wallet. We do not issue refunds to a different account.
Processing time
Once initiated, refunds typically reach your account within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank or payment provider. Some banks may take slightly longer for credit-card refunds.
Confirmation
You receive an email when the refund is initiated and again when our payment partner confirms it has been processed. You can also see the status in your dashboard under your backed campaigns.
Section 05
After successful delivery.
Once a campaign delivers successfully and you receive the product, the transaction is complete and this Refund Policy no longer applies.
For product defects, missing items, or warranty claims after delivery, contact the startup directly. Your rights under the Indian Consumer Protection Act apply.
Section 06
Questions, status updates, or disputes.
For refund questions, status updates, or to report an issue, write to contact@originn.co.in. We respond within two business days.
If you believe a refund is owed and not received, send your campaign details and we will investigate within five business days. Unresolved disputes are handled under the resolution provisions in our Terms of Service.
